Seattle is a gorgeous place to visit, and there are a variety of destinations that are both interesting and fun. Granted, Seattle can be a gray and rainy city during large portions of the year, but if people plan for the weather, they can still have a wonderful time while exploring the “Emerald City”. Here are a few of the top tourist attractions to visit when you are in the jewel of the Pacific Northwest.
Pike Place Market
On the waterfront of Seattle is a quaint but active marketplace where tourists can procure fresh seafood, produce, art, and crafts. Pike Place Market is a great place to engage the hustle and bustle of downtown Seattle in a setting that feels like a traditional farmers market. The setting is gorgeous, and the surrounding views make it a great place for just looking around.
Pacific Science Center and Space Needle
In many ways, the Pacific Science Center is part of the social hub of Seattle. The Center itself is a great hands-on museum that is particularly applicable to kids of all ages. Close-by is the Space Needle, which is probably the most recognizable icon in the Seattle area. Going up the Needle can be expensive, so some tourists simply hang around and take pictures, or visit the nearby food court.
Seattle Aquarium
Another attraction on the waterfront is the Seattle Aquarium. There, tourists can see exhibits of local fish and marine wildlife. The location of the Aquarium makes it ideal for connecting to other tourist attractions along the water, including the ferry system, which can take people and their vehicles to the surrounding islands.
Safeco Field and Seahawk Stadium
Seattle has always been a great sports city, and the relatively new stadiums make great tourist attractions. Even marginal sports fans can enjoy the architecture of Safeco Field and Seahawk Stadium. If the teams are not in season or out of town, tourists can take tours of the facilities, which can very intriguing since tours often go where the average fan is not allowed to visit on game day.
Mount Rainier
Finally, tourists who have some time to get out of the city may make their way to Mount Rainier. The beautiful peak often frames pictures of the Seattle area, and tourists who are willing to make a drive find it a beautiful spot to visit. The mountain caters to photographers, day-hikers, and the more serious enthusiast who wants to brave the summit. Obviously the summer months make it easier to reach, but some people travel to Mount Rainier in the colder months as well.
Honorable Mention: The University of Washington, Pioneer Square, The Experience Music Project, The Underground Tour, Snoqualmie Falls
